Urlar Gladstone Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 11-Aug-2013
Dark hearted ruby-red, lighter on rim. This has a full, soft and voluminous nose with secondary aromas of savoury earth and game to red fruits and dried herb notes. Medium-bodied, full and fleshy flavours of sweet, red fruits feature with complex savoury plums, brown fruits and game. The flavours have depth and are supported by fulsome structure and grip, with acidity lending a freshness to the mouthfeel. A more evolved, funky fruit expression shows, but there is still good texture and liveliness to the palate. This will keep another 4-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Urlar’ vineyard, hand-picked and given a cold soak, then fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 25% new French oak barriques.. Certified organic. 18.5/20 Aug 2013 RRP $35.00 Fruit from the ‘Urlar' vineyard, hand-picked and given a cold soak, then fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 25% new French oak barriques. Dark, deep ruby red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on edge. The bouquet is very fresh and vibrantly pure with concentrated dark cherry and raspberry fruit aromas along with notes of herbs. Medium-full bodied, this is an elegant and well-proportioned wine showing concentrated dark red berry and cherry flavours with a layering of oak spice and nuances of fresh herbs. Violet floral elements and hints of raspberry liqueur show, adding interest. The fruit is supported by fine-grained, supple tannins with balanced acidity which lead to a fresh, lively finish. This is a layered and detailed Pinot Noir that will provide elegant drinking with Asian poultry, pork dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Certified organic. 17.5+/20 Jan 2012 RRP $35.00
