Urban Waipara Pinot Noir 2016

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 06-Jul-2017
Moderately deep garnet-red colour, lighter on the rim. This has a softly full nose with sweetly-ripe red berry fruits with lifted red floral notes and some strawberry jam suggestions, unfolding a little nutty oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate has up-front, sweet red berry fruit flavours along with lifted florals and strawberry jam notes, the wine building in depth. The fruit is supported by light, grainy tannin extraction and the mouthfeel is enlivened by fresh acidity, The palate carries the flavours to a sustained, sweet-fruited finish with some firmness. This is an up-front Pinot Noir with sweet berry fruit and jam-like flavours, along with a little grip on a fresh mouthfeel. Match with pasta, pizza and antipasto over the next 2 years. Fruit from a sustainable grower in the Waipara Valley, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine aged approx. 8 months in stainless-steel and oak, with 25% of the oak new. 1,667 bottles made. 16.0/20 Jul 2017 RRP $TBA
