Unison ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Jul-2012
Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour. The bouquet is a little shy, but builds with intensity and concentration showing ripe black berry and dark plum aromas, with some iron-earth and graphite notes. Medium-full bodied, this is well-structured with ripe black and dark red berry fruits and nuances of earth and tobacco framed by moderately firm, fine-grained tannins. This is well-balanced with elegance of proportion and a deep line and core. The wine blossoms on the finish with rich and sweet flavours of liquorice and oak emerging. This is a seriously structured and well-balanced, ripe Merlot that will develop over the next 8-10+ years. Match with roast lamb, or serve with hard cheeses. Fruit from the ‘Unison' site fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barrique followed by a further 12 months in large oak tanks. 18.5-/20 Jul 2012 RRP $30.00
