Unison Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Jul-2012
Very full, very dark, deep, near impenetrable black-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is full and densely packed with aromas of very ripe black fruits, plums and liquorice, interwoven with spicy oak. The aromatics promise to unfold. Full-bodied, rich and plump, lush, ripe flavours of black fruits, liquorice and Asian spices fill the palate with weight and depth. The flavours flow smoothly, with supple, ripe tannins in support. The softness is accentuated by lower acidity, but this has plenty of drive and power which leads to a very long, sustained finish with rich plum and spice flavours. This is a fully-ripened, plush and powerful, spicy Syrah that will be a match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 6-8+ years. Hand-picked Syrah fruit from the ‘Unison' vineyard fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in barriques. 250 cases made. 18.5+/20 Jul 2012 RRP $45.00
