Umathum ‘Koniglicher Tafelwein’ 2010

Other White from Austria
Review Date : 16-Mar-2015
Brilliant light golden colour. The bouquet is powerfully packed with dense and complex sromas with prominent layers of oxidation and nutty aromas along with yellow stonefruits, toast and savoury, secondary lanolin-like characters. Dry to taste and medium bodied, the palate features an individual juxtaposition of waxy, lanolin, toast and rounded yellow stonefruit flavours with crisp, racy, elevated acidity. The nutty and oxidative expression is complexing and a little detracting, but the wine is slippery in flow and alive in tension and energy. This builds in weight and texture and the wine carries to a very long finish. An enigmatic and individual wine with secondary flavour development and oxidative notes. It would be easy to see this regarded highly, but the technical flaws (?) disappoint me. Drinking over the next 3+ years. Made from the Lindenblattriger variety (a.k.a. Harslevelu), fermented to 11.5% alc. 16.5/20 Mar 2015 RRP $70.00
