Umani Ronchi ‘San Lorenzo’ Rosso Conero DOC 2011

Montepulciano from Italy - Other
Review Date : 10-Apr-2014
Full, even, near impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues. The nose is refined in expression, intensely deep and well-concentrated with ripe black berry fruit aromas intermixed with dried herbs and dusty, earthy notes. With aeration lifted raspberry fruit and black minerally elements emerge. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, deep flavours of sweetly ripe black and red berry fruits meld with liquorice and minerally notes. The extraction is serious, with plenty of dry, powdery tannins enhancing the concentration. The structure carries the palate to a very dry, fine-textured finish with dusty black fruit notes. This is a very concentrated Rosso Conero with black minerally fruits and firm tannins and considerable extract. Match with roasted beef or lamb, and with hard cheeses over the next 7-9+ years. 100% Montepulciano from Osimo and Ancona, hand-picked, given a 10-12 day maceration and fermented to 13.5% alc. The wine is aged 14 months, equally in large casks and seasoned barriques. 17.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $23.99
