Montepulciano from Italy - Other
Review Date : 10-Apr-2014
Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The bouquet is soft and well packed with fruity, primary aromas of raspberries and boysenberries along with earth and minerally elements. Some confectionary and jammy nuances show whole berry fermentation. Medium-bodied, this has a soft, fleshy texture and rounded mouthfeel encasing gentle raspberry jam and boysenberry fruit flavours. Floral and confectionary nuances lift the palate enhancing the moderately concentrated fruit. Soft acidity and light, supple tannins allow the flavours to flow gently to a finish with bitter cherry notes. This is a soft, fleshy and primary-fruited Montepulciano with a mellow mouthfeel. Serve with antipasto, pasta and barbecued food over the next 3-4 years. 100% Montepulciano, predominantly from Chieti and Teramo, hand-picked and given at least 10 days maceration, and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 4 months in tank. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $19.99 Very full, dark and deep purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is soft with densely packed aromas of black berry and cherry fruit with lifted jam, confectionary and spicy notes adding detail. Medium-bodied, up-front and bold, juicy fruit flavours of ripe black cherry fruit intermingle with aromatic confectionary and jam notes, herbs and game. The soft, fleshy mouthfeel and suppleness is enhanced by moderate, fine-grained tannins and acidity. The tannin extract grows in presence and leads to a dry, textural finish. This is a fruity, up-front and fleshy Montepulciano with sweet black cherry fruit. Serve with pasta, pizza and barbecued food over the next 4 years. 100% Montepulciano fruit from Chieti and Teramo in Abruzzi, fermented to 13.0% alc. 17.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $19.99
