Umani Ronchi ‘Podere’ Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2009

Montepulciano from Italy - Other
Review Date : 10-Feb-2011
There is an enormous range of quality with the wines labelled as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from the Marches region and many inexpensive versions lack genuine fruit. Umani Ronchi's ‘Podere', first made in 1977 is textbook. 100% Montepulciano fermented in stainless-steel vats to 13.% alc. and bottled without oak maturation. This has a dark, deep, youthful, purple hued ruby-red colour and a fresh, bright nose of cherries, red flowers and pepper, with a touch of red berry compote. Medium-bodied, this has lively dark cherry, pepper and herb flavours with bright acidity enlivening the entry and mid-palate. Though only modestly extracted, this has good grip and a drying finish. Serve with pizza, pasta and easy country fare. 18.0/20 Feb 2011 RRP $20.99
