Umani Ronchi ‘Cumaro’ Conero Riserva DOCG 2006

Montepulciano from Italy - Other
Review Date : 10-Feb-2011
The 1985 ‘Cumaro' was Umani Ronchi's first vintage of a ‘flagship' Montepulciano varietal wine. Fruit from the Osimo region fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 12-14 months in oak barriques and is very much in the modern, international high quality stakes. The 2006 is the 20th release, there being no 1996 or 2002 releases. Full, dark, deep, near-saturated purple-red colour, this has a rich nose of fully-ripened dark berry fruits match to plenty of spicy, toasty oak. The palate is finely structured with significant tannin extraction framing ripe dark berry fruits, liquorice and chocolate spiced with powerful, cedary oak. This is a wine of concentration and an elegance of proportion that will benefit from bottle aging. Serve with roasted red meat dishes over the next 10-15 years. 18.5+/20 Feb 2011 RRP $48.99
