Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour with some depth. The nose is full and rich with aromas of ripe, savoury citrus fruits and tropical fruits harmoniously melded with complexing layers of creamy and buttery barrel-ferment and MLF notes, and spicy, toasty oak elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly proportioned, but exudes rich and luscious citrus and tropical fruit flavours alongside creamy barrel-ferment and buttery MLF layers. Nutty and toasty oak complexities add to the depth. The mouthfeel features subtle and fine textures that allow the flavours to fill the palate, and background acidity lends vitality and drive, carrying the wine to a very long and sustained, creamy nutty finish. This is a rich and layered Chardonnay with a complex amalgam of citrussy fruit, and creamy, buttery and nutty barrel work. Match with roast pork over the next 4+ years. Mendoza clone fruit from old vines from ‘The Spring’ vineyard, Wairau Valley, indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new French oak barriques, undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. 500 cases made. 18.5-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $35.00
