Two Rivers ‘Clos des Pierres’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-Mar-2016
The second vintage of a Chardonnay for Two Rivers, the fruit from Godfrey's Road in the Wairau Valley. Hand-picked fruit, WBP and fully-barrel-fermented by indigenous yeasts to 14.0% alc., 50% undergoing MLF, with aging for 11 months in 20% new French oak hogsheads. Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green and lemon hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is elegant and tightly concentrated with aromas of white stonefruits, citrus and floral notes revealing secondary mineral elements, barrel work and cream. Medium-full bodied, gently rich flavours of savoury citrus and stonefruits are intermixed with nutty oak elements. Hints of minerals and toast unfold. The palate has a rounded, creamy texture from the barrel-ferment and malolactic conversion, forming a harmonious mouthfeel. Lacy acidity underlines the flavours and carries through to a mouthwatering, moderately sustained finish. This is a restrained and stylish Chardonnay with a creamy texture that is just beginning to show some bottle-development interest. Serve with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Jan 2013. RRP $30.00
