Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 22-Nov-2022
Moderately light ruby-red, youthful appearance, slightly paler on edge. The nose is soft and elegantly presented, with aromas of earth overlying red cherry, field strawberry, cranberry, herb and subtle spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of red cherry, strawberry and cranberry form a taut core, interweave with thyme, liquorice, rose, violet, clay and earth. Finely weaved tannins veiled the mouthfeel in silk; lacy acidity enlivens and lends a long, enchanting finish with lifted herbs, floral and earth. This is a well-crafted and delicate version of Southern Valleys Pinot Noir with refined structure, aromatics, backbone, and a lasting finish. Match with smoked duck and lamb over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from 20-year-old vines, clones 667, 777, 115 and Abel, fermented naturally with 10-25% whole bunches in open-top fermenters, aged 12-18 months in French oak barriques and cuves. 12.5% alc. Unfined, unfiltered, low sulphur, vegan friendly. 19+/20 (96 pts) Nov 2022 RRP $55
