Two Gates ‘Omahu’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-Aug-2012
39% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc and 29% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Two Gates' vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 55% new French oak barrels. Very deep, dark, purple-hued ruby-red, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant, concentrated and focussed nose of ripe dark berry, blackcurrant and plum aromas showing freshness, detail and finesse. Medium-full bodied, concentrated, restrained fruit flavours of ripe blackcurrants and red plums are expressed with excellent clarity and fresh, enlivening acidity. The fruit is supported by firm, but very fine powdery tannins, and carried to a long, sustained finish with attractive nuances. This is an elegant, classically proportioned Bordeaux-styled wine with fine fruit clarity and the structure to keep 8-10 years. Match with roasted lamb or beef, and with hard cheeses. Certified BioGro organic. 18.0+/20 Aug 2012 RRP $55.00
