Two Gates ‘Omahu’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay 2008

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Sep-2012
36% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Two Gates' vineyard fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 55% new French oak barriques. Moderately dark, deep ruby-red colour, lighter on rim. This has an elegant, fine and tightly bound bouquet of well-ripened blackcurrant and black plum aromas with complexing savoury earth, game and cedary notes. Medium-bodied, the elegantly proportioned palate features tightly restrained fruit flavours of black plums and dark berries interwoven with soft earth and cedar elements. This has balanced acidity and freshness, and fine, building tannins provide good line and structure. The extract carries though to a dry, grainy textured finish with some length. This is an elegant and fine-grained Bordeaux varietal wine with cedary interest. Match with roasted red meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. Certified BioGro organic. 17.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $55.00
