Two Gates Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Jul-2013
Very dark, deep, black-hued red with purple on rim. The nose is very fragrant with aromatic dark red berry and plummy fruits, and an iron core complexed by liquorice, black pepper, spices and cedary oak notes. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegant in expression with tightly concentrated flavours of black and dark red fruits, spices, and black pepper, lifted by floral elements. Liquorice and cedary flavours unfold and the palate is supported by very fine-grained, flowery tannins and good acid background. This has linearity and flavours are carried to a firm, fine-textured finish with long lingering nuances of spices and liquorice. This is a fine-grained and tightly concentrated Syrah with aromatic fruit, spices and pepper. Serve with roasted and grilled red meat, and Mediterranean-inspired fare over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from the original ‘Two Gates’ vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, fermented with a portion of whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 20 months in barrel. 18.5/20 Jul 2013 RRP $34.99
