Two Gates Hawke’s Bay Gewurztraminer 2014

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Dec-2014
Hand-picked fruit, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in tank and French oak puncheons to 12.7% alc. and <2 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. Brilliant, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is softly full and even, building in volume and breadth, showing rose-petal florals and root ginger melded with complexing layers of flinty lees and minerally reductive notes, all well-integrated and harmonious in expression. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is soft and gently rounded with harmoniously entwined flavours of musk, ginger and minerals. The acidity is gentle and the mouthfeel smooth and flowing with a suggestion of unctuousness. There is a positive core and line to the palate and the wine carries effortlessly to a long and detailed finish of spices, flint and minerals. This is a smooth and integrated dry Gewurztraminer with a complex array of ginger, musk and flinty flavours. Match with poultry, pork and semi-hard cheeses over the next 3+ years. 17.5+/20 Dec 2014 RRP $27.99
