Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. The nose is refined and tight with pure aromas of white stonefruits, citrus fruits and lifted florals, unfolding subtle notes of flinty lees and lemon curd MLF elements along with nutty oak notes. Medium-full bodied, clear flavours of white stonefruits are intermixed with citrus fruit and nuts. The mouthfeel is refreshing and crisp with soft, lacy acidity balanced by creamy barrel-ferment and delicate buttery MLF layers that provide a degree of unctuousness. Toasty oak detail emerges on mid palate with some alcohol power and drive. A light phenolic textural line guides the wine to a dry, lingering finish. This is an elegant Chardonnay with fruit clarity on bouquet and a mouthfeel that grows in richness and creaminess. Serve with roasted seafood and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 95 and 15, from 8 y.o. vines on the company’s Maraekakaho vineyard, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in tank and barrel to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in oak with 50% MLF, undergoing 6 months batonnage. 17.5+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $27.99
