Two Gates Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 29-Jul-2013
Fruit from 20 y.o. vines from the company’s coastal vineyard, hand-picked, WBP and barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts to 13.3% alc., the wine aged on lees for 10 months with 6 months batonnage, undergoing partial MLF. Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. The bouquet is elegant and tightly restrained, showing subtle citrus fruit aromas with mealy, nutty notes at the core, quite steely, but revealing delicate nuances of creamy barrel-ferment and MLF. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, bright citrus fruit flavours form a core with concentration and linear power. Subtly interwoven nutty, mealy oak and fine creamy textures are balanced by fresh, clean acidity. The mouthfeel is one of harmony and balance. The wine finishes crisply with a finesse and concentration. This is an elegant and focussed Chardonnay with fine citrus fruits and subtle handling. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2013 RRP $34.99
