Two Gates Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 22-Aug-2012
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour. The bouquet is very elegant and tightly concentrated, still to unfold, but showing aromas of dark berry red fruits and hints of florals along with distinctive white and black pepper and some oak toast nuances. Medium-full-bodied, concentrated and densely packed flavours of black fruits, black pepper and spices are underlined by very fine-grained, but firmly expressed tannins forming a deep palate line. The fruit sweetness is balanced by the extraction, resulting in a rounded mouthfeel, and the full presence is enhanced by soft acidity. The tannins drive the flavours to a long, concentrated finish with pepper, spices and a little oak showing. This is a concentrated and fine-textured Syrah with strong peppery characters. It will continue to develop over the next 7-9 years. Serve with slow cooked lamb. Hand-picked fruit, 100% Syrah, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 55% new French oak barriques. Certified BioGro organic. 18.5-/20 Aug 2012 RRP $55.00
