Turanga Creek ‘Notre Terroir’ Auckland Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 23-Aug-2011
40% Merlot , 40% Malbec and 20% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Turanga Creek' vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. Fullish, dark ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues. This has an elegant, intense nose with dark red berry fruits and liquorice and subtle oak spices and floral fragrances that unfold with nuances of blackcurrants. Medium-full bodied, this has a good core of fresh dark berried fruits interwoven with flavours of oak cedar, all in good balance and harmony. The palate shows fresh acidity which contributes good tension and liveliness, which carries through to a long cedary finish. An eleganr and well-fruited, cool and elegant claret-styled wine to match fine cuts of beef and lamb over the next 5-6+ years. 200 cases made. 17.5-/20 Aug 2011 RRP $26.90
