Turanga Creek ‘Lone Oak’ Auckland Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2008

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 23-Aug-2011
Deepish light ruby-red colour, this has a softly intense bouquet of dark redcurrant aromas with notes of spicy, inky black fruits and cedary oak. The fruit has cooler spectrum elements with raspberry, floral and nuances of herbs on the nose. An elegantly proportioned wine, the wine shows lifted redcurrant fruit flavours lifted with floral and stalk notes. Fine grainy tannins and good acidity underlines the palate which carries through to a dry, light and crisp finish showing oak notes. A blend of 40% each of Merlot and Malbec with 20% Cabernet Franc from the ‘Turanga Creek' vineyard, fermented to 13.8% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels. Match with poultry, pork, veal and lamb dishes over the next 4-5 years. 500 cases made. 16.5/20 Aug 2011 RRP $24.90
