Turanga Creek ‘Down To Earth’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Syrah 2012

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 13-Nov-2014
Dark, deep, black-hued red with lighter purple hues on rim. The nose is soft and full with ripe savoury, dark red plum and liquorice aromas integrated with black pepper, spices, game and earthy elements, the bouquet unfolding floral and some leaf nuances with aeration. Light-medium bodied, open and accessible, juicy fruit flavours of savoury red berryfruit and plums are the feature on palate. The extraction is modest and the wine follows a soft, grainy-textured line, the mouthfeel enlivened by elevated acidity. The palate is carried by the acidity to a light, savoury fruited, dry-textured finish. This is an aromatic, light and up-front Merlot/Syrah blend with a grainy texture. Serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern red meat dishes over the next 3+ years. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Syrah from an organic Gimblett Gravels vineyard, fermented to 12.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak. Certified BioGro organic. 16.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $22.00
