Turanga Creek ‘Down to Earth’ Auckland Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 23-Aug-2011
Ruby-red colour with some depth. The nose is full of oak spices and cedar aromas with moderately ripe, red berry fruit, red floral, earth and herb notes underneath. Medium-bodied, the palate is dominated by spicy, cedary oak vanillins with red-berry fruit flavours showing. Lively acidity provides good cut and the tannin extraction is soft and moderate, the wine finishes with an attractively sweet herb and oak cedar amalgam on the finish. Though oaky, this is soft and approachable. Serve with pizza and barbecued food over the next 2-3+ years. 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. 500cases made. 16.0/20 RRP $17.90
