Trinity Hill Thomson’s Block Syrah 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Nov-2021
Deep, full ruby-red with a dark purple hue. The nose is voluminous, poised and youthful, penetrating ripe berries, plums entwined with dark herb, roses, five-spice, cedar and mealy nuance. Medium-full bodied, red berries, plums have a bright core; immensely fragrant dark medicinal herb, roses and cedar enriched the profile, unfolding five-spice and liquorice. Fine-grained, silky tannin and stony minerals lead by vibrant acidity carry to a long-lasting finish. The wine has wonderful concentration, shows vitality and strength for further development. This is a stylish, fragrant Syrah with a depth of complexity and vitality to be enjoyed for years to come. Match with beef short ribs and venison bresaola over the next 12+ years. Fruit from Roys Hill, handpicked MS clone Syrah (95%), whole bunches, foot-stomped, fermented in a small stainless steel open-top fermenter with 5% Viognier, after 11 days on skins, pressed and racked to new 225-litre French oak barriques for 21 months of maturation, no fining. 13% alc. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Nov 2021 RRP$120
