Trinity Hill Prison Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Nov-2021
Full, deep, inky ruby-red with a purple core, lighter on edge. The wine has intensity and breadth, packed with savoury aromas, interweave blackcurrants, blackberries, violet, underlying menthol, leather and dried herbs. Full-bodied, rich and weighty aromas of dried herbs, leather unfolds, followed by violet, blackberries, blackcurrants melded with menthol, cedar and a full, savoury closing. The wine is packed with rich features built on perfumed, fine-grained tannins; the powerful palate shows balanced floral and herb elements, lends a refined, complex, lasting finish. In its infant stage, it will reward cellaring. Match with ribeye & porcini sauce and black pudding over the next 15 years. Fruit from Gimblett Gravels, handpicked, destemmed, 100% whole berries, fermented in small open-top fermenter to 14.5% alc, total time on skins range 19-29 days, then aged in 225-litre French oak barriques for 18 months, unfined. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) Nov 2021 RRP $120
