Trinity Hill ‘Homage’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2007

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Nov-2011
Dark, deep, black-red colour, very full, near opaque. The bouquet is very tightly bound with concentrated and dense black fruits and graphite, still to unfold, seemingly monolithic with its intensity. Full-bodied and surprisingly soft and rounded in texture, this has broad, open and mouthfilling flavours of lively primary black fruits, with subtle hints of minerals, spices and pepper. The tannins are harmonious and provide a fine-grained suppleness. The wine has a linear drive forming the core, which promises to unfold considerably more nuance and develop greater savoury interest over the next 6-8+ years. 91% Syrah and 9% Viognier from the ‘Gimblett Estate' and ‘Gimblett Stones' sites co-fermented to 14.4% alc., the wine aged 18 months in predominantly new French oak barriques.  Nov 2011
