Trinity Hill ‘Homage’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2006

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Nov-2011
Brilliant dark, purple-hued ruby-red in colour, this has a beautifully perfumed nose with aromatically lifted black fruits alongside black and violet florals, oak spices, nuts and black pepper. Primary fruit characters pervade the nose. A full-bodied wine that is remarkably refined and proportioned, the vibrancy and freshness of the black fruits is sensational. Black spices, coffee, bacony-oak, and violet florals flow in layers, and the palate shows intensity and concentration. This has excellent focus and great vitality and energy, the fine acidity adding a sense of tension and vitality. The finish is extremely long sustained and ethereal with an array of flavours. This will keep another decade. 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier from the ‘Gimblett Estate', co-fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine aged 18 months in new French oak barriques.  Nov 2011
