98% Syrah and 2% Viognier from the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle, fermented with 25% whole bunches to 12.6% alc., the wine on skins 3 weeks post ferment and aged 10 months in French oak barriques and tank. Very dark, deep, purple-hued black-red colour, lighter on the rim and youthful in appearance. The nose is full and intensely packed with aromas of ripe blackberry fruit along with black pepper, savoury violet florals, spices and funky herbal and game aromas, revealing black earth, tar and nutty nuances with aeration. Medium-bodied, elegantly concentrated flavours of blackberry fruit, black pepper and complex, savoury herb and game flavours form a well-packed core. Nutty, earthy and spicy elements emerge to lend detail and interest. The fruit is supported by fine, grainy structure and grip, the tannins flowery and dry, with integrated acidity lending softness to the palate line. The wine leads to a dry, concentrated finish of sweet black fruit, spice and game notes. This is an elegantly concentrated Syrah with sweet black fruits, funky game and herb notes and a grainy-textured palate.
