Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour with a little blush, paler edged. This has a finely proportioned, reserved and taut nose with refreshing aromas of white and yellow stonefruits along with a steely, mouthwatering edge. Nuances of nutty oak and minerally lees intermingle with rose-petal florals, and the aromatics bloom in the glass. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, this palate is elegant with bright, lifted, aromatic flavours of white and yellow stonefruits along with suggestions of exotic florals and spices, unfolding nuances of honeysuckle and nutty elements. The mouthfeel is fresh and crisp and flows with good energy and linearity, following a smooth line, driven a little by the alcohol. The wine finishes crisply with floral and honeysuckle notes. This is an elegant, bright, aromatic Pinot Gris with stonefruits and exotic nuances, and a fresh-flowing palate. Match with Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese fare over the next 3 years. Fruit from ‘Mangaorapa Station’, Southern Hawke’s Bay, fermented in seasoned oak to 14.0% alc. and 3.9 g/L RS, the wine aged 10 months on lees. 17.0/20 May 2016 RRP $20.00
