Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2010

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 20-Oct-2011
100% Viognier from the ‘Gimblett Estate' and ‘Gimblett Stones' sites, WBP and partially barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and dryness, the wine aged in barrel and tank for 9 months with lees contact. Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, pale on rim, the nose is a little restrained, but has concentration and intensity. The fruit aromas of apricots, exotic florals and ginger show delicacy, purity and finesse. Dry to taste, and with good body, depth and power on the palate, the fine, smooth, mouth-coating textures allow the subtle fruit flavours of ripe apricots, tropical fruits and florals to build stylishly. Oaking is pleasingly understated. There is a tightness to the fruit expression and the alcohol is quite unobtrusive. Moderate acidity adds to the balance, and the wine is one of poise. The fruit flavours will unfold and the wine become richer over the next 3-4 years. Serve with flavoursome seafood and Asian cuisine. 18.5-/20 Oct 2011 RRP $34.00
