Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Tempranillo 2013

Tempranillo from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Feb-2015
Very dark, deep ruby-red with purple hues. The nose is up-front, quite bold with rich, ripe dark raspberry, blackberry and chocolate aromas. Some violet and dark red floral notes are intermixed with a little boysenberry and jam. Well-structured, but fleshy, the fruit sweetness and juiciness is encased by grainy tannins, and this is textured and grippy, but not overly so. Brambly flavours emerge. Robust with a sense of rusticity in mouthfeel, but the fruit is the feature in the final analysis. 18.5+/20 Feb 2015 RRP $35.00 Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, near impenetrable, and youthful in appearance. The nose is concentrated with ripe black berry and black plum aromas, along with subtle dark raspberry, boysenberry jam, herb, pepper and earthy nuances, all harmoniously entwined. The aromatics blossom with aeration. Medium-full bodied, fill, ripe, fleshy fruit flavours of ripe black plums, raspberries, blue fruits fill the mouth with sweet juiciness, forming a deep and concentrated core. The fruit enriched by soft, acidity, and supported by very fine-grained tannins that grow in prominence. The extraction and structure carries the fruit to a firm, fine-grained, long and dry finish with plum, pepper and earthy notes. This is a full, fleshy, ripe, plum and dark-fruited Tempranillo with prominent, fine-grained tannin structure. Match with Mediterranean lamb dishes and slow-cooked red game meat over the next 5-6+ years. 91% Tempranillo and 9% Touriga Nacional, hand-picked and destemmed but not crushed, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 15 months in tank and French oak barriques. 18.5+/20 Jan 2015 RRP $35.00
