Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Feb-2014
Bright, even dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is elegantly fresh with aromas of white and black pepper along with spicy red berry fruits and perfumed violet and dark red florals. The aromatics are attractive and a feature. Medium-bodied, tightly bound flavours of red berry fruits, florals and pepper form a fine-flowing palate line. Refined tannins and fresh. Lacy acidity support and enliven the fruit expression providing poise and tension. The wine unfolds a good array of floral and red fruit detail which is carried to a fresh, light and lively finish. Beautifully elegant, aromatic and driven by the acidity, this Syrah will develop savoury interest over the next 4-5+ years. 18.0+/20 Feb 2014 Very full, dark, deep black-hued purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a tightly concentrated bouquet of black berry fruits with savoury spices, black pepper and complexing meaty nuances, lifted by black and violet floral notes. Medium to medium-full bodied, softly concentrated and lusciously sweet flavours of black berry fruits and black pepper are interwoven with spice, tar and game elements. The flesh, juicy fruit is balanced by fine-grained, powdery tannins, with fine acidity enhancing the spicy detail and aromatic nuances. The fruit blossoms and fills the palate with richness and waves of savoury flavours which flow to a very long and lingering finish of black fruits and pepper. This is a full, savoury-flavoured, fleshy Syrah with fine detail and tannin structure. Serve with lamb, beef, venison and rich game meat over the next 6-8+ years. Fruit from estate vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels, destemmed and fermented with a high portion of whole berries to 12.0% alc., the wine aged in new and seasoned French oak barriques. 18.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $35.00
