96% Syrah and 4% Viognier from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., aged 14 months in new and seasoned French and American oak barriques. Dark ruby-red in colour, this has a tight and finely constructed bouquet of black fruits, pepper and spices, lifted with violetty perfumes. On palate, this has northern Rhone elegance with clear-cut black, pepper and berry fruit flavours, framed within a dry, tight, fine-textured structure. The wine has length and some alcohol warmth, and a herb and earth savouriness that will endear it to a multitude of red game meat matching situations over the next 5-7 years.  Mar 2011
