Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Oct-2016
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on the rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with intense and vibrant aromas of white stonefruits and citrus fruit harmoniously intermixed with layers of flinty and minerally lees to form a tight, softly dense core which unfolds nuances of smoke and spicy oak. Medium-bodied, the palate is fresh and bright with lively fruit flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits and complexing gunflint lees and mineral elements. The mouthfeel is zesty and refreshing with lively acidity, and the wine follows a refined, fine-textured phenolic line. Creamy barrel-ferment textures balance the acidity and the wine carries with lusciousness and energy to a long, crisp finish of citrus fruit, flint and oak. This is a bright and brisk, lively Chardonnay with stonefruit and citrus flavours complexed by flint and mineral notes and spicy oak. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 95, 15 and 548 from the ‘Tin Shed’ and ‘Winery’ vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels, indigenous yeast fermented in 500 L puncheons to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in barrel with MLF conversion followed by a further 4 months on lees. 18.5+/20 Oct 2016 RRP 35.00
