Brilliant straw-yellow with slight golden hues. The nose is rich with densely concentrated and softly layered aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, grapefruit and considerable flinty lees and reduction elements. The componentry is very integrated, the oaking wonderfully nuanced. On palate the richness of fruit is the feature. Sure, there’s the complex reductive notes, and some toasty oak, these inputs quite powerful and intense. But it is balanced and adds to the layers and depth of flavour. This is smooth, soft and lush. The mouthfeel is lively through power, and the acidity very much in the background. Maybe a little more acid bite would bring it close to perfection? In any case, it shows even more than last time. 19.5-/20 Feb 2015 RRP $35.00 Bright, even straw-yellow colour with light golden hues and a little green-yellow on rim. This has a full, voluminous, moderately deep nose packed with complex layers of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits infused with flinty, minerally, reductive complexities, nutty barrel-ferment and toasty oak elements and smoke. Medium-bodied, rich, luscious, open and accessible flavours of ripe stonefruits and citrus fruits are harmoniously melded with gunflint and mineral complexities. The palate unfolds nutty, toasty detail, and flows along a soft-textured, near creamy line with ripe acidity lending energy. The fine tension carries the wine to a very long, rich, complex-nuanced flinty and nutty finish. This is a soft, rich harmonious and complex layered Chardonnay with stonefruit and gunflint flavours. Match with grilled and roasted poultry and pork dishes over tjhe next 5-6+ years. Clones 95 and 15 from the company’s ‘Tin Shed’ and ‘Gimblett Estate’ vineyards, hand-picked and indigenous yeast fermented in French 500 L puncheons to 13.2% alc., the wine aged 12 months in barrel on lees with MLF conversion. 19.0/20 Jan 2015 RRP $35.00
