Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 14-Feb-2022
Bright, pale yellow with a slight green hue, faintly lighter on the rim. The nose is full, possesses toasty oak elements, cashew, spice, underlying clarified butter, citrus and stonefruit. Full-bodied, bright aromas of apricot, lemon, pink grapefruit melded with cream, nutmeg, roasted cashew. The fruit has good concentration and weight, balanced with the creaminess; spice and acidity lift the palate with freshness; nutty nuances linger to a long finish. Minerals and fine-textured phenolics coated the palate, leaving a chewy mouthfeel. This is a generous, elegant Chardonnay with concentrated fruit and toastiness on a textural mouthfeel. Match with roasted guinea fowl and crispy pork belly over the next 5-7 years. Fruit from Tin Shed (82%) and Winery Blocks (18%), handpicked, fermented in 500-litre French oak puncheons to 14% alc, 60% new oak, went through MLF, aged for 12 months in barrels, then further aged on lees in tank for 7 months, no fining. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $39.99
