Trapiche ‘Oak Cask’ Mendoza Malbec 2012

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 21-Feb-2014
Very dark black-red, near impenetrable, with youthful purple hues. The bouquet is intensely concentrated with spicy black berried fruits along with herbs and a lifted volatile raspberry element suggesting sweetness. Medium-full bodied, softly luscious black fruit flavours show concentration and depth, revealing raspberry jam, plum and boysenberry notes. The palate has some lifted volatility that dissipates with aeration. This has a supple mouthfeel and the flavours are driven by alcohol along a fine, grainy line to a lingering jammy finish. This is a sweet-fruited and lifted Malbec with supple textures. Match with barbecued and roasted red meat dishes over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked fruit from vineyards 750 – 1,100 metres a.s.l., fermented to 14.0% alc. and 4.05 g/L RS, the wine aged 9 months in French and American oak barrels. 16.5+/20 Feb 2014 RRP $15.99
