Torres ‘Mas La Plana’ Penedes Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Cabernet Sauvignon from Spain
Review Date : 08-Sep-2013
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the 29 ha ‘Mas La Plana’ vineyard from 60 y.o. vines, fermented to 14.5% alc. and aged 18 months in mainly new French oak. Full, very deep, black-hued ruby-red, youthful in appearance. The nose is powerful and concentrated with densely packed aromas of ripe black berry and blackcurrant fruits and matching exotic, spicy, cedary oak. The bouquet is still very youthful, needing to come together. Full-bodied with immense presence on palate, powerfully concentrated flavours of blackcurrants and black fruits show ripeness and sweetness, providing a lush and succulent mouthfeel. The fruit is enlivened by fine acidity and framed by considerable tannin extraction. The core is firm with plenty of alcohol drive, and the wine shows proportion and componentry balance. Oak spices, vanilla and toast meld with blackcurrant essence and the flavours carry through to a very long and sustained, dry, textural finish with oak nuances prominent. This is a powerful, well-ripened and strongly oaked Cabernet Sauvignon with heroic dimensions at a youthful stage. Match with slow-cooked beef, lamb and venison over the next 10-15 years. 19.0/20 Sep 2013 RRP $67.90
