Tony Bish ‘Skeetfield Vineyard’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Jun-2016
Bright straw-yellow with pale golden hues at the heat, lighter on the rim. The nose is very full, building in concentration to show a complex and layered amalgam of ripe yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits interwoven with creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak aromas, along with mealy and flinty lees elements and nuances of minerals. The nose grows in depth, detail and interest with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate features intense and stylishly rich and concentrated flavours of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with layers of mealy, nutty oak and lees complexities. The fruit depth and extract lends a very fine-textured grip and line, which is balanced by the creamy barrel-ferment. The fruit vitality and fresh, piquant acidity provide a lively and energetic mouthfeel. The wine carries with plenty of drive and tension to a very long, concentrated and taut finish of stonefruits, mealy and nutty oak. This is a rich, concentrated and complex layered and detailed Chardonnay with vibrant, mealy, stonefruit flavours, nutty and creamy oak and a vibrant, fresh palate. Match with roasted seafood, poultry and pork over the next 6+ years. Old vine Mendoza clone fruit from Denis Gunn’s ‘Skeetfield’ vineyard, Ohiti, hand-picked, WBP direct to barrel for fermentation with moderate solids to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months on lees in 60% new Taransaud oak, the wine undergoing some batonnage and 100% MLF. 19.5-/20 Jun 2016 RRP $54.95
