Tony Bish Heartwood Chardonnay 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Jun-2021
Bright, pale yellow with some depth, even colour throughout. The nose is gently full and elegant; warm butter melded with lightly roasted almonds, delicate spices interweave citrus and stonefruit with a mineral underlay. Medium-full bodied, the palate is bright with invigorating acidity, feature aromas of lemon sherbet, lemon and grapefruit zest, hints of nectarine flow on a discreetly buttery line, with subtle nutty nuances and spices. All flavours are subtly well-proportioned, supported by seamless acidity and chalky phenolics; sherbety freshness lingers to a long, refined finish. Another great vintage of Hawke's Bay Chardonnay by a great Chardonnay producer, already delicious. Match with lemon sole and kingfish crudo with yuzu ponzu over the next 5+ years. Mendoza clone, from Bridge Pa Triangle vineyards. Handpicked, 100% barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc. Aged in seasoned 100% Taransaud French oak barriques, 30% new. Full MLF. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts)June 2021 RRP $35
