Tony Bish Fat & Sassy Chardonnay 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-May-2021
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow with some depth. The nose is open and full, the aroma of succulent peach and pear is melded with barrel spices and a cream veil. Medium-full bodied, 'fat' and creamy palate filled with juicy peach and pear nuances, a hint of phenolic carry toasty and spicy oak through the palate, linger to a moderately long closing. The fruit is appealing, supported by a lively acid drive. Creamy mouthfeel enriched by lees stirring and buttery MLF. This is an attractive Chardonnay with succulent fruit, poised acidity and toasty element on a creamy flow. Match with roasted chicken and pan-seared snapper over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from 3 sites in the Bridge Pa Triangle, one-third fermented in large oak vat, one-third in barrique and one-third in tank, to 13% alc, the wine aged 9 months in barrel with batonnage and 100% MLF. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) May 2021 RRP $20.99
