Tongue in Groove Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 02-Apr-2014
Bright, even ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues, lighter on edge. The nose is elegant and gently layered with aromas of dark cherry and red berry fruits infused with cedary, spicy oak, revealing some raspberry liqueur elements. Fullish-bodied, flavours of ripe dark red berry fruits and plums form a fulsome, rounded palate with soft textures and a mellow mouthfeel. The acidity is on the lower side, adding to the openness and accessibility. The palate is harmoniously textured, well-integrated and smooth flowing, with good weight and presence. Supple tannins and fruit extract build in exoression and carry the flavours to a smooth, vinous finish with spice and oak elements. This is a full, rounded and harmonious Pinot Noir with soft oak cedar and spice nuances. Match with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 5+ years. Fruit from the ‘Riverview’ vineyard, destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented with a high portion of whole berries to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16-17 months in 25% new French oak barrels. 18.0+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $45.00
