Tohu ‘Hemi Reserve’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-Sep-2018
Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, lighter on the edge. The nose is rich and well-concentrated with complex layered aromas of ripe white and yellow stonefruits harmoniously melded with subtle notes of creamy barrel-ferment, and nutty and toasty oak. The aromatics retain a degree of elegance and finesse, revealing some mineral nuances. Medium-bodied, the palate has rich flavours of stonefruits and citrus fruits entwined with creamy and nutty oak and lees, harmoniously integrated with some butterscotch MLF and toastiness. The flavours form a finely concentrated core and the palate has some underlying power. The mouthfeel is fresh with lacy acidity providing good balance and fresh cut, and the wine carries to a long and sustained finish. This is an elegant but richly layered and complex Chardonnay with stonefruit and citrus fruit flavours, creamy, nutty oak with buttery hints, and some underlying power. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Awa’ block, Awatere Valley, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in seasoned French oak, undergoing batonnage and MLF. 18.5/20 Oct 2018 RRP $38.00
