Tohu Hawke’ Bay Merlot 2014

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-May-2015
Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. The nose is firm with good depth of dark red berry fruits along with savoury herbs and nutty, resinous oak. Dark red cherry fruit and a little oak toast emerges with aeration. Medium-bodied, this has an elegant core of dark red cherry and berry fruits, entwined with redcurrant notes and some resinous oak. The mouthfeel is lively with fresh acidity and the wine follows a grainy tannin line. This has firmness and drive, and the tight structure carries the wine to a dry-textured, lingering finish with fresh acidity and red fruits. This is an elegant, fresh, cherry-fruited Merlot with a firm line and some resinous oak. Match with most red meat dishes and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine over the next 3-4 years. A multi sub-regional Hawke’s Bay blend, the fruit hand-picked, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in seasoned French oak barriques. 16.5/20 May 2015 RRP $21.95
