Tohu Awatere Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 10-Nov-2015
Moderately dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim. This has a fresh, intense nose of ripe, dark red cherry and berry fruits along with nuances of spiced plums, liquorice and violet florals. Raspberry liqueur and lifted oak notes emerge with aeration. Medium-full bodied, up-front, juicy and plush fruit flavours of dark raspberries, red liquorice feature on the palate and are supported by grainy tannin extraction. Liquorice and dark herbal detail unfold from the core to add layers of interest. The fruit and mouthfeel is balanced by lively acidity, enhancing the sweetness. As the wine flows, the flavours become slender and carry to a light, taut, lingering finish. This is a bright, juicy, up-front, fruity Pinot Noir with freshness and grainy structure. Match with pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the company’s Awatere Valley vineyard, hand-picked, destemmed and fermented with indigenous and inoculated yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Nov 2015 RRP $27.95
