Tironui Estate Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 10-Jun-2013
A blend of 52% Malbec, 32% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked and fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged at least 10 months in 2-3 y.o. French oak barrels. Very full, dark, purple-hued black-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly proportioned with good concentration and density, showing aromas of spicy black berry fruits and plums underlined by some eucalypt, mint, dark herbs and dusty, cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is firmly constructed with dry textures. Flavours of plums and liquorice sit alongside eucalypt and mint and are carried by fine-grained tannins and spicy oak. The acidity is soft, but this has good depth and drive, and the flavours lead to a dry, grainy finish with lingering dusty oak and spiced plum flavours. This is a firm, dry textured, Merlot-based red with plum, liquorice and cedary oak flavours. Match with roasted game and hard cheeses over the next 5-7 years. 17.5+/20 Jun 2013 RRP $29.99
