Full, very deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, paler on edge. This has an elegantly proportioned, intense and penetrating nose of black berry fruit along with aromas of black pepper, spices, iron-earth and black florals. Medium-bodied and elegant in presentation, flavours of black berry fruit, black and white pepper, spices and florals are enlivened by bright acidity. The palate has good energy and tension, along with balancing, fine-grained, supple tannins. The wine follows a well-driven line carrying through to a long, sustained, black peppery finish. This is an elegant, bright-fruited, peppery Syrah with a lively mouthfeel. Serve with duck and pork, and with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit from a single vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, destemmed and given a cold soak and fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in a mixture of stainless-steel tanks, and new and seasoned French oak. 17.5-/20 Jun 2014 RRP $27.00
