Thyme Hill Merlot 2017, Central Otago

Merlot from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 03-Mar-2023
Bright, ruby-red with a garnet tinge, lighter on edge. The nose is softly full, with nostalgic aromas of dried red berry and red plum intertwined with savoury hints with a suggestion of soy, earth and medicinal herbs. Medium-light bodied, aromas of dried red berry and red plum melded with spice, herb and savoury elements. Supple, grainy tannins contribute to a light grip; the red fruit shows concentration and palate weight supported by lively acidity. This cool-climate Merlot shows red fruit, spice and tertiary complexity. Match with beef stew over the next 2 years. Fruit from Alexandra basin, fermented to 13% alc. 17/20 pts (85 pts) Mar 2023 RRP $30
