Thyme Hill Merlot 2016, Central Otago

Merlot from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 30-Jun-2021
Deep ruby red with good transparency, very slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is gentle, slowly growing in volume, aromas of red plums, dark cherries entwined thyme, subtle medicinal herbs development. Medium-bodied, aromas of red plums, red berries and cherries melded thyme and barrel spices. The mouthfeel is supple, adorned by fine-grained, integrated tannin; subtle barrel spices lifted on the finish. This is a cooler-climate Merlot with an elegant tannin structure, bright acidity and plush fruit. Match with shepherd's pie and flank steak over the next 3-4 years. Aged approx 10 months in barrels, 14% alc. 85 cases produced. 17.5/20 pts (88 pts) June 2021 RRP $35
