Thornbury Waipara Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 09-Mar-2014
Fruit from the ‘Waiata’ vineyard, cool-fermented with a small portion in seasoned French oak to 13.0% alc. and 6.2 g/L RS, the wine undergoing batonnage. Bright straw-yellow colour with a faint suggestion of blush, pale on edge. The nose is softly full, well-integrated and ethereal in aromatics, showing ripe white and yellow stonefruits with delicate pear and honeysuckle notes and some lifted esters and exotic floral nuances, that build in depth. Off-dry to taste and medium-bodied, deep flavours of stonefruits, pears and honey form a good palate core. The wine has some underlying alcoholic power and drive, and is balanced by fine phenolic textures and soft acidity. Flavours of stonefruit kernels emerge and the flavours lead to a long, subtly nuanced finish. This is a subtly-flavoured off-dry Pinot Gris with some underlying phenolic drive and line. Match with white meat dishes over the next 3-4 years. 18.0+/20 Mar 2014 RRP $17.00
